Title: Electronic dual dice

hey guys... i was planning to make a electronic dual dice project without using PIC.
Can somebody help me about this proj? thanks.. A schematic for this would really help.. thanks..

this is the site for PIC enthusiasts and we will keep it as such, however, since you've asked nicely I will try to help you by pointing to you a couple of places. First, this circuit has been published by many Electronics magazines around the world. Try www.siliconchip.com.au (http://www.siliconchip.com.au) for a complete article. A kit with all components you may be able to obtain from www.altronics.com.au (http://www.altronics.com.au) or
www.jaycar.com.au (http://www.jaycar.com.au). Both have mail order services. I could post a circuit, but it would be a breach of copy rights and Administrator may not like that kind of activity on his site.

this is a very nice link, added to my rss.

jheigh, i made once a dice for educational reasons, but it works. it is single, but you can double it my doubling the LEDs, the driving transistors and the 4017. I thought though that you wanted a PIC dice, didn't you?

Now that i build my electronic dice, i wanted now to build my up down counter... i already found some resources but i think its not enough.. can you guys suggest some tips to me or any references? thanks so much.. god bless!!! :) ;D

it is a good time to start with designing IC circuits, simple TTL or CMOS. Go to these pages:

Here is a good reference to have a quick pinout list for CMOS and TTL chips, but is not enough. I really do not have a circuit for up/down counter, but you can easily make one yourself. First make a pulse generator with a 555, that is straight forward. Keep the frequency low, for example 0.5 to 10 Hz. Drive the pulses to a 74xx190, and the outputs A-B-C-D of this to the inputs A-B-C-D of a BCD to 7-segment driver like 4511. It sounds complicate but is simpler. There are some pins that needs to be taken to HIGH or LOW, and this has to do with the setup. With this, you have just make yourself a single digit Up/Down counter.  You can cascade multiple counters and decoders to add more digits.

Making a counter is super fun. As a matter of fact, the first digital circuit that i designed and worked (back in 90s') was a 3-digits UP (only) counter.  (http://pcbheaven.com/exppages/images/thumbs/waterflowsensor_1275125260.jpg) and still works! I used it to measure pulses from a flow sensor (http://pcbheaven.com/exppages/Experimenting_with_Liquid_Flow_Sensor/)

P.S. Get more than one counter and decoder. Also keep in mind, that if you get CMOS, they are VERY SENSITIVE IN STATIC ELECTRICITY! Do not touch them bare-handed for they will be destroyed without any notice. Use insulated tools to put them on breadboards, and better ground yourself with something like this:
