General Discussion / Re: Free online electronic circuit design tool
« Last post by Forby on January 16, 2017, 08:03:48 AM »
I 'd like to recommend a new free online electronic circuit design tool.
There are several crazybulk reviews for free EDA tools around and some excellent FOSS tools such as KiCad and gEDA but the reason I thought people might be interested in this one, EasyEDA, is because it has a few twists to it.

Thanks for the helpful tool Max.
Your projects / manchester code controller needed
« Last post by dennis48089 on January 10, 2017, 21:10:17 PM »
I have an animatronics show and I need some help designing or making a controller that will make the manchester fm2 code. This system from R A Gray uses the manchester fm2 code and square waves. I'm envisioning using some kind of arduino or raspberry pi with a midi keyboard to do this.  I know theres a lot of smart people in here and I would appreciate some help here!

I used seeed studio fusion to make a small run 1 months ago and was pleased with the service.
Digital discussion / Selecting Resistors and Caps of Astable 555 Timer
« Last post by NMTrains on December 22, 2016, 22:33:27 PM »
I've used the calculators many times for 555 Astable circuits often with good results.

This morning I ran into a 40Hz problem where all calculators agree on the 3 components, including even a hand calculation and I have to use a capacitor that is way different from what the calculations say.

To get about 42 Hz, I have in the circuit R1 6.8K, R2 22K C 4.7uf

All calculations say this give a frequency of 6Hz

Holding the resistors constant, to get 42 Hz, the calculators say C should be .68 uf.

Almost 1 order of magnitude difference.

What am I not understanding?
General Discussion / 10m IR remote control
« Last post by Scuba2 on December 12, 2016, 01:16:36 AM »
I looked at your IR video , as I have failed to make one.
I have a 38k receiver a mosfet and led to detect an IR presence. I tried 3 remote controls and all work over 10m so I took out the IR led.
I then proceeded to blow it up!
So I tried two of my cheap Chinese led's connected to the diner remote .
They worked perfectly!
Having found a circuit for a remote , it looks like they use very little resistance and high current , but for very short duration.

I will have another go at the weekend but if anyone has any advice it would be great.

Good Job!

I just replicated the circuit on a breadboard using the substitute parts (PN2222a transistor for T1 and 500K ohm trim pot for R7) and can report that the circuit works as advertised without further modification.  Not sure if I made a mistake on the original circuit or if I used a faulty component.  Just want to let everyone know that a PN2222a will work as a substitute for the BC338.
