Proximity sensor...
« on: July 08, 2014, 21:22:25 PM »

I'm after a proximity sensor that will open or close a switch when the sensor detects a "beacon" within 3-6 feet of the sensor.  I guess I'm after a magnetic TYPE proximity sensor but that has long range.

Is this anything like this about?  The sensors will be install on moving things like your car, and when its close enough to the "beacon" it triggers a switch.

Any ideas?

that is about 2 meters... well, i can only think of a capacitance sensor, which means that it will not only detect magnetic fields but also it will sense meltals or other materials, like humans, cats....

is the beacon a device?
just tune a fm transmitter power. so the range is limited to what you need.
or try the simple Ultrasonic distance meter stuff if the beacon is not a device
