I remember this otc game SimCity... After some ages or so, you could build a Microwave power supply. That was exactly like this idea. Collecting sun from orbiting sat and then transmitting it down to earth. It also had some misalignment of the beam from time to time causing some serious damages near by. But you know what? In simcity, someone could just turn off the disasters  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
