Ultrasonic ball bearing test

I saw this looking for information about ball bar test. It is a very interesting measuring tool in case you do not know it. It uses ultrasound (i do not exactly know how) to find out the condition of a bearing. The operator will have a set of headers and a probe. He touches the probe to the bearing cell while it rotates and heats the sound. Also, he may get a waveform of this sound on his computer. From the sound or waveform you can understand if the bearing has problem or not. This is very nice tool for CNC technicians and not only.

It's common method of troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, you can also have a record of waveforms so you can compare the wear of parts. It's clean, non conductive and the money the thing costs is reasonable for what offers.

It is a good tool for preventive maintenance but it is not that easy to use it. You need to keep records otherwise you will get to understand that a bearing is almost dead when it has a few days of life.
