Chip and printed circuit board
« on: March 22, 2008, 21:49:04 PM »
I was googling around and i found a topic that said that a chip is better than a printed circuit board. I really cannot get it. Does anyone understand or know the difference?

This is not very clear. Actually, a PCB is a board with one or more components (and some times some chips also), and a chip is... a chip.

Maybe what you read is that a chip is better than a circuit, when this chip does the same job as the circuit. For example, there is a chip for making an A/D converter, but this can also be done with a circuit on a PCB without any chips. In this case  is true, the chip is better than the PCB because is smaller, can be integrated to other circuits very easily, needs very less power to operate, and much faster. Also, when it breaks you simply replace it with a new that is most of the times very cheaper.

I hope i am in the subject  ???
