The first guitar strings were made our of the guts of cats (which makes also a perfect rime). They appeared around 1265. Back then, guitars had 4 pairs of strings. Later, in 1551 they got a fifth pair, until they got their final shape of six single strings around 1770.

The first nylon strings were introduces in 1946 (increasing the population of cats...)
