LED Resistor Selector DialAuthor

I made something completely different from the electronic projects that i usually make. This time i made a tool for the amateur friends that want a simple and easy way to calculate the resistor value for the limiting resistor to drive one or more LEDs.

You only need to rotate the wheel and align the supply voltage with the LED forward voltage, and you can immediately read the resistor value and power. Here is a video with this make:

You can go now to the worklog and read:

  • Page 1: The theory behind this selector and the math to choose the proper resistor value
  • Page 2: How to make this selector
  • Page 3: How to use this selector

  •    Continue reading. Click here to view the worklog.

    • fantastic. one slight error on page 2 "As you can see, for 20mA current you should select a resistor around 140 mA... " shouldn't that be ohms :)

    • This is genius! I love it, will definitely come in handy! I may laser etch a version in acrylic, if so I'll send you one!
